"Loneliness is the poverty of self; solitude is the richness of self".
Living in poverty in not a choice, or a decision you make to save money. Living in poverty is about how much money you are left with after the necessities you pay for, or is about the percentage of your money that you have after you pay bills. More commonly people live in poverty because of the job they have, because of their expenses, drug use, having no job, and being born into. However poverty can strike anyone. Rich people can suddenly fall into poverty it is something that can happen in the blink of an eye. Poverty is caused by being born into debt, by suddenly losing a job and not being able to find another one, by not being able to get a job, and or a sudden incident happening which causes a person to lose a substantially amount of money. Poverty can affect people democratically too. The democratic belief is basically everything should have an equal chance, or be equal. However poverty is the opposite of equal when you are born into it, can't get a well paying job, and have no saving for the future just incase something happens.
Poverty causes the crime level to rise. People who live in poverty need a quick way to get out. Some of the quicker ways are illegal things. According to poverties.org “Starting from the 1970s, studies in the US pointed more and more at the link between unemployment, poverty and crime. After that other connections with income level, time spent at school, quality of neighborhood and education were revealed as well”. Meaning that poverty and crime have been linked since the 1970’s. Most robberies, most homicides, most drug transactions are made by people who live in poverty. Mostly people who are in poverty sell drugs, or rob other people for money and nice things. You can hear about rappers saying things like “I was so poor I had to get back, I choose both I choose rap and crack”. The music business confirms that people in poverty do whatever it takes to get out the struggle. This links back to the democratic view on poverty too, with more jobs none of these things would be happening. Poverty isn't giving people equal chances to make honest money because there are no jobs. Since there are no jobs, this cycle will just keep continuing because jobs are what would make the percentage of people living in poverty go down.
